Fans can't go to some fruit drink equivalent of Netflix that. The can seems to be the most desired one of the two, not just because it contains nearly twice as much of the sweet, ghoulish nectar, but the can itself actually changes colors after having been chilled in your refrigerator for a bit. The same can't be said for Hi-C Ecto Cooler, the Ghostbusters-themed citrus fruit drink that Hi-C first released in 1987.
However, by that point the Internet had allowed entire Ghostbusters fandom groups to flourish under the banner of nostalgic appreciation of the Ecto-Cooler brand, and multiple petitions began to circulate asking that the product be restored to its original name. The 2016 limited release of Ecto Cooler currently comes in two sizes: a small juice box and a standard can. The previously discontinued flavor of juice was something Ghostbusters fans have long wanted to see back on shelves, and back in May they got their wish in conjunction with the release of the new. Who you gonna call.with the deliciously spooky taste of tangerines, this super slimy and deliciously refreshing citrus drink is scary good. The drink was not formally discontinued until 2001 when it was re-named Shoutin' Orange Tangergreen and then Crazy Citrus Cooler in 2007.
It was so popular among a certain generation of snack-food devotees that it continued to be sold as "Ecto-Cooler" even after The Real Ghostbusters was canceled in 1991 and Slimer was removed from the box-art in 1997. The childrens beverage featured the iconic Slimer, a ghost made entirely of ectoplasm, who made his debut in the original Ghostbusters film. Though the original Citrus Cooler had been widely available for decades (since the '60s, in fact), the popularity of all things Ghostbusters in the '80s drove sales and turned the flavor into one of Minute Maid's top consistent sellers in the Hi-C brand.
